In addition to a competitive salary & benefits, Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is part of a statewide initiative called Total Rewards that seeks to attract and retain employees by supplementing their base pay and benefits with programs designed to improve the quality of their work environment and lead to greater job satisfaction and work/life balance. Employees of the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities have access to an extensive network of benefits through the Georgia Department of Community Health; the State Personnel Administration, and for the US Veterans Administration and the Georgia Department of Veterans Service.

Employee Incentive Program
The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities celebrates and honors employees who demonstrate exceptional customer service in DBHDD. The Right Work-Right Way Award Program is a monetary award program that recognizes those individuals who demonstrate particularly outstanding performance in making services faster, friendlier, and easier and moving the Department/organizational unit toward the achievement of strategic goals.
Accrual is based on years of continuous service:
- 10 hours per month for up to 5 years of service (15 days each year)
- 12 hours per month from 5-10 years of service (18 days each year)
- 14 hours per month for 10 years of service or longer (21 days e year)
Accrual is at the rate of 10 hours per month regardless of years of service. After 120 hours have been accrued, up to 24 sick leave hours per year may be transferred to personal leave.
Health, dental, vision, legal , disability, accidental death and dismemberment, healthcare and childcare spending accounts and life and dependent life insurance are available.
Employees participate in the Employee's Retirement System. Contributions are based on a percentage of salary. Group Term Life insurance is provided to all members of the Employee's Retirement System.

Tax shelter plans are available that enable employees to provide for greater retirement security. Fund programs are available in both 457 and 401(k) plans.
Employees are eligible to become members of the Human Services Employee Credit Union.
Employees may have the option of flexible work hours, including teleworking. Alternative work schedules allow employees to work at varying times. DBHDD offers the following options: Staggered reporting times; daily flex; nine-hour day with alternate day off; and the 10-hour day compressed workweek.
