Forensic Services Technician - Positive Behavior Support Team (PBS)

Job Description

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), Programs Department, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Forensic Services Tech (FST) on the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Team. This position is located on the campus of Georgia Regional Hospital At Savannah.

Job Summary:

The FST assigned to the PBS Team will be required to act as a liaison between FST's/HST's on the unit by maintaining good rapport and will demonstrate effective communication skills by training and modeling behavioral support plans for staff. Must have a willingness to learn and adhere to all components of the PBS model. Must feel comfortable working on all units at the hospital and be able to interact well with all treatment team members across the hospital as well as members of the administration and health information management staff. Must demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. While typical working hours will be Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, the FST assigned to the PBS Team must be able to work flexible hours as dictated by the needs of the PBS Team assignments. Will also be expected to be flexible in daily work assignments as dictated by the current needs of the PBS Team. Must demonstrate self-motivation and self-direction, effective written and oral communication skills, task-orientation, professionalism, and a commitment to confidentiality. Some previous experience working in a mental health setting with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and have some exposure to behavior modification principals and procedures. This position's responsibilities include implementing Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Positive Behavior Support plans(PBSs) with persons with behavioral challenges who have Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (MI) and/or Intellectual Disability (ID) who are residing in public psychiatric facilities. Other responsibilities include assisting in the development, implementation, and follow-up on Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Positive Behavior Support (PBS) plans and giving feedback to clinical psychologist as to effectiveness of plan. Assist direct care staff working with people with MI/ID to implement PBS plans and give corrective feedback as needed.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED

 

Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Experience with persons with MI and/or ID, and experience with behavioral intervention. Some experience implementing behavior support plans (BSPs) and Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSs); oral and written communication skills, and an ability to effectively communicate, interact and work with other mental health disciplines on interdisciplinary teams. Must complete the Safety Cares certification by completion of new employee Orientation. Must have a valid Driver's License. Must have experience in Security AND/OR one year of experience in direct care with persons with mental health, mental retardation, and/or substance abuse disabilities, or with forensic patients, correctional offenders, or a similar population.
