Clinical Laboratory Technologist

Job Description

Performs laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Analyzes specimens, interprets, records and reports results. May serve as lead worker and/or supervise lower level staff.



8am - 5pm



Bachelors degree in a related science field AND Two years of experience in a clinical laboratory and Certification as a medical technologist, MT (ASCP), or equivalent certification that meets the personnel qualification requirements pertaining to "technologists" specified in the Department of Human Resources rules for licensure of clinical laboratories.

*Must obtain SAFETY CARE certification by completion of new employee, and must maintain this certification as a term and condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Medical Technologist, AMT (American Medical Technology) or MT, ASCP (American Society for Clinical  Pathologists).  Four (4) year degree-Bachelors of Science; at least two (2) years of experience.  Knowledge of standard laboratory safety procedures.  Ability to apply appropriate test methodologies, accurately document interpretations of results, ability to use area specific software.  Knowledgeable in performing quality control to ensure accuracy of analysis.

Employment Information

This position is located at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia.

Central State Hospital was founded in 1842 and was Georgia's first psychiatric hospital. Its purpose was to provide a safe and humane place for the mentally ill and mentally retarded.

The medical complex encompasses about 1,000 acres. The hospital, a middle Georgia mental health/developmental disabilities/ substance abuse facility, serves 23 counties in middle Georgia and has specialty programs serving citizens from the entire state of Georgia. Central State Hospital is accredited by JCAHO and certified by Medicare.

Milledgeville is located in historic central Georgia only 95 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.

Milledgeville, the 4th capital of Georgia, is one of only two planned capital cities in the United States - the other being Washington, DC.
