Medical Records Technician
The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Medical Records Technician in the Health Information Management Department at Georgia Regional Hospital At Savannah (please visit www.garegionalsavannah.com for more information about the hospital).

Assigns and sequences ICD-9-CM/CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures for documented information. Assures the final diagnoses as stated by the physician are valid and complete. Abstracts all necessary information from health records to identify secondary complications and co-morbid conditions. Performs a comprehensive review of the record to assure the presence of all component parts such as: patient and record identification, signatures and dates where required, and other necessary data which appear to be indicated by the nature of the treatment rendered. Evaluates the record for documentation consistency and adequacy. Ensures that the final diagnoses accurately reflects the treatment and care rendered.
High school diploma or GED and two years of related experience OR One year at the lower level or at an equivalent position OR Two years of college or Associate degree.
One year coding experience using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4, certification as a CCS, CCS-P, CPC or RHIT. Knowledge of HIPAA confidentiality laws and State laws as it relates to Protected Health Information (PHI), excellent communication skills and must be able to follow hospital policies and procedures. Must have good organizational skills and ability to prioritize and reprioritize. PC knowledge and ability to navigate in a windows environment.
