The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) serves people of all ages who have mental retardation or related developmental disabilities; alcohol or other drug addictions; the most severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder, or children and teens with severe emotional disturbance.
The main office for DBHDD is located in downtown Atlanta.
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) has regional offices throughout the state, including seven regional hospitals.

Central State Hospital
(CSH), Georgia’s first public psychiatric hospital, was founded
in 1842 to provide a safe and humane environment for Georgians with mental
illness and developmental disabilities. Located in Milledgeville, the CSH
complex currently encompasses about 1,750 acres.

East Central Regional Hospital/Augusta, serves
consumers with disabilities including: mental illness, developmental
disabilities, and substance abuse.

Located on 174 Acres
in DeKalb County,
Georgia Regional Hospital/Atlanta operates 366
licensed, accredited inpatient beds in three major program areas: Adult Mental
Health, Forensic Services, and Developmental Disabilities. In addition, GRH/Atlanta also offers inpatient and
outpatient Dental Services and an Outpatient Forensic Evaluation Program for
juveniles and adults.

Georgia Regional Hospital/Savannah serves over 2000
people annually and works with people of all ages with a variety of psychiatric

Southwestern State Hospital
provides services to consumers in need of mental health, developmental
disability and addictive disease services in the southwest region of the
State of Georgia. Located close to the Florida border and close distance to
